Regular tyre condition check-ups including pressure check, age of a tyre and tyre tread are necessary to keep your vehicle safe on the road. We prepared a tyre condition checklist guideline for you.
Optimal Tyre pressure
Reducing tyre pressure by 10 – 15% decreases the tyres’ life span by 30% as well as increases fuel consumption by up to 0.3l per 100km. Furthermore, there is an increased risk of a tyre blow-out by overheating at higher speeds.
Therefore, we follow the recommendations of the biggest Automobile Club in Germany (ADAC), as well as the biggest insurer Allianz. We set the optimal tyre pressure slightly higher, as it does not affect the comfort of your vehicle in any way. At the same time it increases the tyres’ life span and reduces fuel consumption.
The Age of a Tyre
Old tyres are posing significant safety hazard to you and other road users. As the tyres get older they become harder, brittle and provide less grip. Therefore, you must check the condition and pressure of older tyres more frequently. Paired with wrong tyre pressure the wear will increase significantly. Therefore, we recommend to change tyres at least every seven years, and check the tyre pressure every second refuel.
Where can I find the date of manufacturing?
The date of manufacturing can be found on the sidewall of a tyre. Simply find the acronym DOT, where the last four digits of the code indicate the manufacturing date. If your tyres have three digits only, they were manufactured before 2000. Please replace them immediately!
Tyre Tread
A new tyre usually comes with a tread depth of approx. 8-9mm and can last for 40,000km. However, wrong tyre pressure and excessive acceleration will reduce the life span of a tyre. A tyre tread of at least 3mm is required to stay safe on the road.
How can Autohaus Dietler assist you?
