BMW has extended an existing product recall
BMW has extended an existing product recall which was started in 2018. According to BMW’s press officer in Germany, 232,000 additional vehicles are affected worldwide.
What is the problem?
In some cases glycol leaks out of EGR (Exhaust-Gas-Recirculation) cooling system and will accumulate in the EGR module. In combination with oil and soot particles it creates a combustible mixture. This mixture can be ignited by exhaust gases at high temperatures. Once ignited it can melt the intake manifold, and in very rare cases may cause fire.
How dangerous is the problem?
According to BMW, the fire probability is very low. At the moment we do not have any information whether and when BMW will start a recall in Australia.
